Follow one entering cohort, semester by semester
Cohort Flow tracks who continues, who changes college, who stops out and who graduates — and highlights the exact transitions where students are lost. Load your own de-identified cohort CSV, or explore the bundled synthetic sample (fictional, ~2,000 students).
- Pick a cohort and any subgroup filters in the bar below — every chart updates together.
- Read the Sankey for term-to-term flows, the retention curve for survival over time, and the leak finder for the biggest losses.
- Hover anything for detail; use Export to save charts as PNG or tables as CSV. Nothing ever leaves your browser.

Term-to-term flow
Students moving between terms — continuing, changing college, stopping out, graduating. Students who enter in a later term join the flow at their entry term, so a column can be larger than the one before it.
Retention curve
Share of each entering cohort still enrolled or already graduated, by terms since entry, with 95% confidence bands. Dashed marker: published IPEDS first-year retention for the University of Idaho.
Leak finder
Transitions with the largest losses, ranked. Hover or click a row to highlight it in the Sankey. Bar length = students lost; label = % of the cohort present the term before.
Small multiples by college
Retention by college for the selected cohort (dashed gridlines at 50% and 100%). Click a college to filter every chart; click it again to clear.
